KORONADAL CITY| September 18, 2025 – Authorities are investigating the September 13 escape of 38-year-old murder detainee Jayrald P. Plana from the South Cotabato Rehabilitation and Detention Center, which has since triggered a province-wide manhunt.
Officials confirmed that 13 personnel were on duty during the night of the escape. These included four (4) regular guards responsible for overall security and nine (9) job order guards, two (2) of whom were female officers assigned specifically to the women’s dormitory.
Following the incident, all personnel remain in their current posts, with no transfers or removals made.
As the search for Plana intensifies, authorities admitted the internal probe is still underway.
Provincial Warden Ret. PLtCol. Barney P. Condes admitted that lapses contributed to the escape but assured that those responsible will be held accountable once the investigation is completed.
“We are doing our very best to locate and bring back the escaped PDL, while at the same time conducting a thorough investigation to determine accountability,” Condes said.
The hunt for Plana has reached its fourth day, with security measures intensified and police coordination ongoing.
