Norala District Hospital and South Cotabato Provincial Hospital earn 3-Green Star Award, set new benchmark for safe and sustainable healthcare

South Cotabato – December 5, 2025 — Norala District Hospital has been recognized with the 3-Green Star Award by the Department of Health–Health Facility Development Bureau (DOH-HFDB) during the 2025 Green and Safe Health Facilities Recognition and Technical Conference early this week in Manila, after significantly improving its energy efficiency, waste management system, and climate-resilient infrastructure.

Hospital Nurse Cherry Ann Batilo accepted the recognition on behalf of Chief of Hospital Dr. Mila G. Quinton, Chief Nurse Benny Maypa, and the entire healthcare team.

The award reflects their collective work to redesign hospital systems to be more environmentally responsible and safer for patients and staff.

Norala District Hospital earned the distinction through the Green Viability Assessment (GVA) System, which grants the 3-Green Star Rating to facilities that score between 76% and 85% across key sustainability indicators.

The rating confirms the hospital’s compliance with the DOH Green and Safe Health Facilities Manual and highlights its progress in integrating environmentally responsible practices without compromising patient care and safety.

Among the initiatives that led to the award are the hospital’s use of energy-efficient technologies, enhanced water conservation and sanitation systems, and the strict implementation of healthcare waste management protocols.

The facility has also invested in climate-resilient infrastructure upgrades, while maintaining sustainability in procurement, site upkeep, and indoor environment standards.

South Cotabato Provincial Hospital (SCPH) likewise received the same 3-Green Star Award, solidifying the province’s commitment to promoting green, safe, and climate-resilient healthcare services in its major hospitals.

With both Norala District Hospital and SCPH earning the distinction, South Cotabato strengthens its position as one of the leading provinces championing sustainable and patient-centered healthcare systems. Hospital officials say this milestone further motivates them to advance environmentally responsible practices while maintaining high-quality care for the community.
