KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato — A total of 413 cooperatives are registered in South Cotabato, highlighting their growing role in inclusive economic growth and community empowerment.
Provincial data from the Office of the Provincial Cooperative Development Officer (OPCDO) show that there are 310 micro, 49 small, 37 medium, and 17 large cooperatives across sectors such as agriculture, finance, and community enterprises. These groups promote financial inclusion and grassroots development.
Atty. Renette B. Bergado, Provincial Cooperative Development Officer, said strengthening cooperatives improves members’ long-term welfare.
“The main purpose is to improve the lives of members in the long run,” she said.
Marlon C. Serilo added that members benefit from easier access to government support and services.
“There are many benefits, especially access to assistance from the provincial government,” he said.
The OPCDO reported 11 accredited cooperatives in South Cotabato, as approved by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
“We are encouraging these cooperatives to register with the CDA and secure provincial accreditation,” Serilo said.
The provincial government, under Governor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr., continues to support cooperatives through training, technical assistance, and access to funding to strengthen their role in local development.
As cooperatives grow, the Provincial Government of South Cotabato reaffirms its support to help them thrive as drivers of economic opportunity and financial inclusion.
