KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato– The Provincial Government has announced that the P244 million Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) will be allocated to directly address the pressing needs of residents in every municipality and barangay. The funding allocation, according to Gov. Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr., will prioritize basic necessities identified through extensive consultations with communities.
Governor Tamayo emphasized that the P244 million fund will be distributed based on the actual and most urgent needs of residents in their respective areas.
“This fund will go to where it is truly needed,” the governor said, stressing that the provincial government aims to ensure that every peso will have a direct and meaningful impact on the lives of the people.
He explained that the allocation is not a one-size-fits-all approach but will instead reflect the unique challenges faced by each locality.
A significant portion of the fund will be dedicated to strengthening food security initiatives across the province.
The provincial government plans to purchase rice to support residents, particularly vulnerable families, ensuring access to affordable and sustainable food.
Governor Tamayo underscored the importance of providing stable food supplies, especially amid rising prices and economic challenges.
By procuring rice at the provincial level, the government aims to make it more accessible and affordable for households, reinforcing its commitment to food sustainability and poverty alleviation.
In addition to food support, the LGSF will finance key infrastructure projects. Among the priorities is the concreting of roads leading to sitios, puroks, and tourist destinations. These improvements are expected to enhance mobility, boost local commerce, and promote tourism development.
Residents in far-flung communities have long called for better road access, particularly during the rainy season when unpaved roads become difficult to pass.
Through the road concreting program, the provincial government hopes to improve connectivity and ensure safer travel for residents, farmers, students, and visitors.
Water system projects will also receive funding under the program.
“ Access to clean and reliable water remains a concern in several barangays, and the governor assured constituents that water infrastructure will be strengthened where it is most needed,” he noted.
The allocation plan is the result of town hall meetings conducted by Governor Tamayo and his team across various municipalities. These consultations allowed residents, local officials, and sectoral representatives to voice their concerns and propose priority projects.
The governor described the initiative as a product of participatory governance, where decisions are shaped by direct community input rather than solely by provincial planning offices.
“Ini ang resulta sang aton diskosyon sa mga town hall meetings. Gina pamatian ta ang katawhan, ang ila concern kag prioridad,,” Governor Tamayo said.
Governor Tamayo further assured that the provincial government will continue to personally visit barangays to monitor needs and ensure immediate response to urgent concerns.
He stressed that leadership requires direct engagement at the grassroots level.
“ Mapipilitan ako na bumababa sa mga Barangay para mapasiguro at makita kon anu pa ang kailangan nila na pweding magawan ng agarang solusyon.,” he said.
With the P244 million Local Government Support Fund, the provincial government aims to uplift communities by addressing fundamental concerns food security, infrastructure, water access, and other essential services.
Governor Tamayo reiterated that the success of the initiative depends on transparency, accountability, and sustained collaboration between the provincial government and local communities.
As implementation begins, residents across the province look forward to tangible improvements in their daily lives, hopeful that the fund will bring lasting progress and equitable development to every barangay.
