The province of South Cotabato will increase the palay support fund to Php20 million next year to help more farmers get reasonable prices out of their palay produce.
Provincial Agriculturist Justina Navarette said the increase from Php10 million this year to Php20 million next year will be of big help to farmers.
She added the continued provision of palay support fund will ease the burden of farmers for production losses.
This year, the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist through the Binhi-an ng Timog Kutabato Multi-Purpose Agricultural Cooperative (BINTIKU-MPAC) has procured at least 2,600 bags of rice at 50 kg. from more than 100 farmers in the province.
Out of this, 1,600 was utilized by the Provincial jail while the remaining number of bags is ready to be released upon request.
Navarette called on farmers in South Cotabato who want to be part of the Palay Support Fund program to submit to the OPAG the soil sample, a certification that they are insured by the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC), submit the package of technology they are adopting.
She also reminds farmers to complete all the requirements before submission as non-compliant will not be entertained.
