South Cotabato, Philippines – Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer (PDRRMO) Rolly Doane C. Aquino has urged motorists to give way to ambulances, stressing that every second counts in saving lives, especially when transporting patients in critical condition.
Aquino said, “When an ambulance is on the road, it must be given priority. Pull over if needed. Let’s give priority to ambulances.”
He stressed, “We are racing against time.”
Aquino emphasized that even brief delays can be life-threatening. He noted that if a patient’s heart stops and immediate resuscitation is not possible, their survival is at risk.
Given the distance between General Santos City and Koronadal City, he underscored the need for rapid transport of patients to hospitals with specialized facilities and doctors trained to perform life-saving procedures.
“Doctors here know which medicine to give, but some procedures can’t be done in Koronadal,” Aquino added.
He reiterated, “Time is of the essence for ambulances.”
In a separate reminder to ambulance operators, Aquino urged the responsible use of sirens and lights. “If you don’t have a patient, turn off your blinkers. There’s no need to use hazard lights or the siren,” he said.
The reminder is meant to ensure that whenever an ambulance siren is activated, the public immediately recognizes its urgency and gives way without delay.
