SOUTH COTABATO – June 19, 2026 — The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) of South Cotabato has officially recommended declaring the entire province under a State of Calamity in response to the effects of the magnitude 7.8 earthquake and the series of aftershocks that have affected South Cotabato and neighboring areas.
The recommendation aims to facilitate the immediate implementation of response, relief, rehabilitation, and recovery interventions and to enable the strategic use of disaster funds and resources for affected communities throughout the province.
According to PDRRMO and Incident Commander Rolly Doane C. Aquino, RN, MPA, MMNSA, MMCMDR, MMPHA, the recommendation reflects the Provincial Government’s commitment to ensuring that timely assistance and essential services are delivered to communities severely impacted by the disaster.
“The recommendation to place South Cotabato under a State of Calamity underscores our commitment to respond swiftly and effectively to the needs of our affected constituents. Through this declaration, we can immediately mobilize resources and provide essential assistance to communities that require urgent support,” Aquino said.
Aquino disclosed that the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) has proposed using ₱20 million from the Quick Response Fund (QRF) to support emergency operations and humanitarian interventions.
The fund will be used to deploy search, rescue, and retrieval teams; implement strategic evacuation protocols; and manage emergency relief operations. It will also ensure the timely distribution of family food packs, potable water, medical supplies, and temporary shelter systems for displaced and affected families.
“The proposed utilization of the Quick Response Fund will allow us to strengthen our emergency response capabilities and sustain the delivery of critical assistance, particularly to vulnerable families and communities affected by the earthquake and its aftershocks,” Aquino added.
The recommendation of the PDRRMC-South Cotabato will be formally endorsed to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan for appropriate action in accordance with existing laws and procedures.
As the province continues its recovery efforts, the Provincial Government of South Cotabato, under the leadership of Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr., remains steadfast in delivering “Tama kag Maayo nga Serbisyo” and in ensuring that no South Cotabateño is left behind.
Governor Tamayo emphasized that the provincial government will continue to prioritize the welfare and safety of its people through coordinated response efforts and sustained recovery initiatives.
