A Training on Waste Management and Emergency Preparedness & Response for Hazardous Waste Transporters was conducted recently by the Provincial Environment Management Office – Environment Management Division (PEMO – EMD).
PEMO – EMD chief Elbe Balucanag disclosed that the objective of the training is to capacitate PEMO-EMD personnel on the handling of hazardous waste, particularly those directly involved in the collection, transport, treatment, storage and disposal.
Engr. Elias Mamongcal, CHWPS chief of DENR-EMB 12, was the Resource Speaker of the one-day training attended 15 PEMO-EMD personnel.
Last year, PEMO-EMD has installed its Pyro-clave (Mantis Optima) Model, equipment that treats hazardous and infectious wastes at its Health Care Waste Treatment Facility located at the Integrated Provincial Environment Management Center, Tinongkop, Tantangan.
After its commissioning last September, the facility has treated tons of hazardous wastes generated by health care waste providers province-wide with the corresponding payment of collection and transport fees as stipulated in Provincial Ordinance #22, Series of 2016.
The facility initially generated a revenue of more than P200,000.00 after more than a month of operation.
Aside from the pyro-clave equipment, PEMO-EMD also purchased a 1-tonner insulated van as transport facility.
