South Cotabato, Philippines– As holiday celebrations draw near, the Provincial Veterinary Office is urging pet owners to take extra precautions to keep their animals safe amid expected fireworks displays.
Dr. Ramelo G. Quinton, DVM, Veterinarian III, emphasized the importance of keeping pets indoors during loud festivities to prevent stress and potential accidents.
“Isulod sa balay, ikulong para mas hindi sila stressed kag mas kalmado sila,” he advised, noting that sudden loud pops, booms, and flashes can easily frighten animals.
According to the Animal Defense League’s Fireworks Pet Safety guidelines, pets often experience heightened anxiety during fireworks
Pet owners are also encouraged to offer distractions like toys, treats, or soothing music to help redirect their pets’ attention away from the noise.
“Ensuring that pets have proper identification—such as ID tags—is also vital in case they panic and escape,” Dr. Quinton said.
Walking dogs earlier in the day is suggested, as many pets may refuse to go outdoors once fireworks begin.
The Provincial Veterinary Office reminds everyone that simple preventive steps can go a long way in protecting animals during celebrations.
By keeping pets comfortable, secured, and monitored, households can ensure a safer and more peaceful holiday for both humans and pets alike.
