The Lang Dulay T’nalak Weaving Center which is named after Gawad Manlilikha ng Bayan (GAMABA) awardee as national artist for t’nalak weaving Lang Dulay located in her residence at Sitio Tbong, Lamdalag, Lake Sebu received P20,000 financial assistance from the Province of South Cotabato for 2021.
Senior Tourism Operations Officer Argie Ryan Asaria, Arts, Culture, Tourism and Museum (ACTM) Unit chief disclosed that the assistance was for the partial renovation of the weaving center established by the national artist years before her death last 2015.
The renovation efforts supervised and assisted by John Florencio Dulay, the family representative, pointed out in his report submitted to PGO-ACTM that the renovation and restoration will offer opportunities particularly on strengthening the legacy of the national living treasure Be Lang Dulay.
Dulay likewise stressed that the weaving center offers a safe haven that is conducive to learning among weavers and other apprentices in the process of t’nalak weaving, and serves as protection from rain or direct sunlight to ensure its quality of the t’nalak.
He added that the center will also become an avenue for the restoration of economic and livelihood activities for weavers and their families and will promote a safe and better venue for tourists to visit as one of the tourist destination in region 12’
Further to, Dulay added that the center will strengthen the will and courage of the community in the preservation of t’nalak weaving tradition given the government support, that will become a better place for gathering the community especially in dealing with important matters.
The renovation/restoration started on December 1 and finished on December 10 of last year by carpenters employed from the community.
