PHP26M phase III of slope protection project in Surallah, continues

SOUTH COTABATO, Philippines — The Provincial Government of South Cotabato continues to strengthen road safety in Barangay Upper Sepaka, Surallah through the ongoing construction of the Phase III slope protection project along the Modon–Kiantay Boundary Road.

The project has a total cost of ₱26.19 million and is intended to address risks in an area that is prone to landslides and soil erosion, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.

Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. said the provincial government continues to prioritize infrastructure investments that address safety concerns and protect communities from potential hazards.

“We prioritize infrastructure projects that protect the safety of our people and help reduce risks that may affect the community,” Tamayo said.

By stabilizing the roadside slope, the project is expected to help protect the road and provide safer and more reliable access for residents, motorists, and other road users who regularly travel through the area.

Provincial Engineer Lloyd Esparagosa said the project will help strengthen the affected portion of the road and provide added protection for road users, especially during heavy rains.

“The area where the project is constructed is prone to landslides and soil erosion during heavy rains. Through this project, we are strengthening the slope to help protect the road and the people who use it,” Esparagosa said.

The project is part of the provincial government’s Proyektong Angat Para sa Lahat, which aims to provide infrastructure that responds to the needs of communities and supports the delivery of Tama kag Maayo nga Serbisyo.

Once completed, the improved road protection is expected to contribute to safer mobility and more dependable access between communities in the area.
