South Cotabato, Philippines | October 29, 2025 – More than a hundred Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) from across the province gathered for the Provincial BNS performance implementation review and congress held on October 29–31, 2025 at Susan Beach Resort in Barangay Tinoto, Maasim, Sarangani Province.
According to Angela B. Frugalidad, RND, Community Affairs Officer IV, the congress is held annually to gather BNS, Provincial and Municipal Nutrition Action Officers, and Nutrition Coordinators.
“This is the most awaited event for BNS as it allows them not only to learn, but also to relax, reconnect, and feel appreciated after a year of service in their barangays,” Frugalidad said.
The activity featured nutrition updates, lectures, and recognition rites, including the awarding of long-service BNS and top performers in the Gulayan sa Ugsaran and Community Gardens.
“There were also sessions on mental health, a BNS quiz and dance contest, Zumba, raffles, the Search for Mutya ng BNS 2025, and a socialization night. The final day was dedicated to morning worship and reflection,” she explained.
Frugalidad emphasized that the congress plays a crucial role because BNS carry the frontline work in nutrition—counseling families, monitoring children, and delivering services at the grassroots.
Through the activity, BNS gained new knowledge, motivation, and support to continue their mission.
Focus topics also highlighted food security, encouraging households to grow their own vegetables so families will have steady and healthy food sources.
“This gathering reminds our BNS that they are not alone. Their stories, struggles, and successes matter—and their work changes lives in every barangay,” she added.
With the theme “Empowering BNS: Fostering Nutrition Diversity for Sustainable Food Security,” the three-day event aimed to empower nutrition frontliners and strengthen community-based programs.
