South Cotabato – The approved ₱3.8-billion annual budget of the Province of South Cotabato reflects a clear commitment to people-centered development under the leadership of Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr., prioritizing health care, food security, and the protection of vulnerable communities.
Approved through an appropriation ordinance by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, the budget consists of allocations from the General Fund and the Economic Enterprises Fund. These include support for revenue-generating facilities such as the South Cotabato Gymnasium and Cultural Center, South Cotabato Sports Complex, and the Lake Sebu Zipline and Seven Falls, which contribute to local tourism and economic activity.
A significant portion of the budget supports the province’s health sector, ensuring the sustained operation and expansion of provincially managed hospitals—namely the Norala District Hospital, South Cotabato Provincial Hospital, and Polomolok Municipal Hospital.
In recognition of the growing healthcare demand, the provincial government also provides operational subsidies to partner facilities, including Tampakan General Hospital, Ruel I. Senador Memorial Hospital, and Lake Sebu Municipal Hospital.
“This approach ensures that health services are closer to the people,” Fontanilla said. “Not all cases need to be referred to provincial hospitals. Strengthening local hospitals allows faster and more accessible care.”
The budget also funds food security initiatives such as consolidated rice farming and mechanization, while addressing disaster vulnerability through the RST Villages (Relocasyong Sigurado sa Tao) program. With ₱59 million allocated, the program will provide 180 housing units for families living in flood- and landslide-prone areas.
“These investments reflect the Governor’s proactive leadership,” Fontanilla added. “They are not just responses to problems, but long-term solutions for safer and healthier communities.
