South Cotabato, Philippines – The Provincial Government, together with the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO), has announced the implementation of a nationwide anti-dengue campaign initiated by the Department of Health (DOH) due to a 24% increase in dengue cases compared to the previous year.
According to the Provincial Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (PESU), 788 dengue cases were reported from January 1 to February 22, 2025. The majority of those affected were female (52%), and their ages ranged from 2 months to 94 years, with a median age of 16.
Out of the total cases, 379 (48%) were classified as suspected dengue cases, 276 (35%) as confirmed, and 133 (17%) as probable. A total of 549 (70%) cases have warning signs, and one death in Poblacion, Polomolok.
Reported dengue cases were identified in various areas, including Koronadal, Polomolok, Sto. Niño, Surallah, Norala, and Tboli. Seven municipalities have either reached or exceeded the epidemic threshold.
In response to this alarming rise in cases, Eldon Hans Serame , Health Education Promotions Officer II, said the province continues implementing the “Alas Kwatro Kontra Mosquito” campaign every Monday in the workplace at 4:00 PM. This is to encourage employees to look for breeding places of mosquitoes in offices.
The IPHO explained that mosquitoes carrying dengue are most active during this time, making it crucial for communities to take preventive measures. The public is encouraged to participate and strengthen efforts to stop the spread of dengue. ( with reports from Albert Sionosa)
