Provincial Government to deploys kabugwason scholars under government internship program

South Cotabato, Philippines — Kabugwason scholars officially joined the second batch of the South Cotabato Government Internship Program (GIP) after participating in a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing and orientation held at the SP Mini Conference Room, Legislative Building, Capitol Compound.

At least 18 beneficiaries will be assigned to various Local Government Units (LGUs), National Government Agencies, and Provincial Government Offices, where they will gain practical experience and exposure to actual government operations.

According to program coordinator Flora Montoya, GIP serves as a short-term employment opportunity for fresh graduates and unemployed individuals who have not yet gained work experience in public or private institutions.

“They signed a contract for six months,” Montoya said.

Through this program, interns are given the chance to acquire professional learning experiences, gain exposure to the real-world work environment, and develop the necessary skills and competencies that will prepare them for future employment in either the public or private sector, Montoya said.

The activity was graced by Board Member Annabelle G. Pinggoy and Atty. Renette B. Bergado, who expressed their support for initiatives that help young graduates transition into the professional workforce.

The initiative forms part of the provincial government’s continuing efforts to empower young professionals, strengthen workforce readiness, and provide meaningful opportunities for former scholars to apply their knowledge and skills in service to the community.

The Government Internship Program (GIP) in the Philippines is a key initiative under the Kabataan 2000 Program, created through Executive Order No. 139, series of 1993, and reinforced by Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Administrative Order No. 260-15. The program aims to provide young individuals—particularly graduates of high school, technical-vocational courses, or college—with the opportunity to gain valuable work experience.
