South Cotabato, Philippines | January 07 2026 — As the province prepares for 2026, Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. is stepping up efforts to strengthen education and create more job opportunities through the Provincial School Board (PSB), signaling a renewed commitment to both learning and livelihood in South Cotabato.
Provincial Administrator Atty. Renette B. Bergado confirmed that PSB hiring is now open to the public, with teaching positions taking priority across the province.
The recruitment is based on actual school needs identified through assessments by the Department of Education.
“The hiring is ongoing, but we focus first on schools that truly lack teachers,” Bergado explained, stressing that the process is needs-based and carefully evaluated.
For 2026, the PSB will draw its budget from two major sources: the General Fund, managed by the Governor’s Office, with an allocation of about ₱92.4 million, and the Special Education Fund, estimated at ₱85 million. The initial budget totals ₱177.4 million, with expectations that it will exceed ₱200 million once supplemental budgets are approved.
Applicants for PSB teaching positions must meet strict qualifications. Only licensed teachers are accepted, and applicants must pass through the proper channels.
While applications are open to walk-ins, coordination with school principals is required, along with their recommendation.
“School principals know best what their schools need, whether in English, Math, Science, or other subjects,” Bergado added.
The PSB aims to hire more than 50 new teachers by January, on top of existing personnel.
Beyond education, the program supports Governor Tamayo’s broader goal of full employment.
The provincial government is fast-tracking the development of the IT Center and IT Park while strengthening partnerships with business groups to generate more jobs for residents.
For applicants like Melvin P. Dina of Barangay Lambingi, Banga, the program offers renewed hope. After months without work, he applied for a watchman position, hoping to support his family.
“This program gives people like me a second chance,” he shared.
With education and employment moving hand in hand, the provincial government continues to deliver people-centered programs that invest in the future of South Cotabato.
