South Cotabato – The Provincial Government of South Cotabato continues to reinforce its commitment to accessible and inclusive education through sustained support to public schools under the leadership of Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr., with the Provincial School Board (PSB) playing a central role in program implementation.
Through allocations from the Special Education Fund (SEF) and the General Fund, the province supports the Free Education Program—an initiative designed to reduce the financial burden on parents and ensure safe, functional learning environments.
Provincial Budget Officer Luz Perpetua Fontanilla explained that a significant portion of education-related funding goes to personnel support, including wages for school utility workers, janitors, clerks, and security guards assigned to public schools across the province.
“Many parents used to shoulder these costs through contributions,” Fontanilla said.
She stressed that the governor made sure that these essential services are funded by the province so families can focus on their children’s education without added financial strain.
The PSB ensures that funds are properly allocated and utilized in coordination with school administrators and local stakeholders. Teachers paid through PSB-supported mechanisms, along with non-teaching personnel, contribute to maintaining safe, clean, and well-managed school facilities.
Beyond financial support, the education budget is aligned with long-term planning to ensure sustainability and equity. This reflects the Governor’s belief that education is not merely a sectoral concern but a foundation for inclusive growth and social development.
“Our education budget is an investment in our future,” Fontanilla emphasized. “It shows that the provincial government listens to families and responds with concrete action.”
Through the strengthened role of the Provincial School Board and consistent fiscal support, South Cotabato continues to advance a learning environment where access, safety, and quality education remain top priorities for every child.
