Koronadal City, South Cotabato—-In-house clients of the South Cotabato Balay Silangan Reformatory Center (SCBSRC) actively participated in a series of learning sessions conducted earlier this week, strengthening the center’s continuing efforts to support their recovery through education, behavioral change, emotional wellness, spiritual formation, and other holistic rehabilitation interventions.
According to SCBSRC Center Head Earl Rey Madres, the center remains steadfast in delivering comprehensive rehabilitation services that nurture not only the physical aspects of recovery but also the emotional, mental, social, and spiritual well-being of every client.
“Recovery is a continuous journey that requires commitment, guidance, and the courage to embrace positive change. Through structured learning sessions, spiritual enrichment, and wellness activities, we strive to equip our clients with the knowledge, values, and life skills they need to rebuild their lives and successfully reintegrate into their families and communities as responsible and productive individuals,” Madres said.
Madres added that the South Cotabato Balay Silangan Reformatory Center will continue strengthening its collaboration with academic institutions, faith-based organizations, and partner agencies to ensure the delivery of holistic interventions that foster lasting behavioral transformation and support a drug-free, productive, and hope-filled future for every client.
The initiative forms part of the center’s continuing rehabilitation efforts to engage its clients in learning sessions focused on addiction recovery, emotional wellness, behavioral change, and healthy coping strategies. Through these sessions, clients are provided with opportunities for self-reflection and personal growth while developing practical life skills essential to sustaining long-term recovery.
Social Work Student Intern Jefferson Blunto from Golden State College of Koronadal (GSCK) facilitated a lecture on “Five Common Challenges in Early Recovery,” discussing the obstacles commonly encountered during the early stages of rehabilitation and practical strategies for overcoming them. The lecture was complemented by interactive group discussions and activities that enabled the clients to reinforce the concepts learned and share meaningful insights with one another.
The clients also participated in Spiritual Enhancement Sessions facilitated by Pastor Joseph Combatir, which encouraged spiritual renewal, strengthened their faith, and inspired hope as they continued their journey toward personal transformation. They likewise attended meetings and practice sessions in preparation for the upcoming Nutrition Month Culmination Program, fostering teamwork, discipline, and active participation.
Another learning session was conducted by Social Work Student Intern Justine Paul Daquera, who presented the topic “Alcohol Arguments,” helping the clients recognize common rationalizations associated with alcohol use and encouraging responsible decision-making and accountability. The center also facilitated its regular visitation schedule, allowing clients to reconnect with their families and loved ones, while those without visitors participated in a movie-viewing activity that promoted relaxation and positive social interaction.
Further strengthening the clients’ understanding of behavioral change, Social Work Student Intern Richard I. Salibay conducted a lecture on “Thoughts, Emotions, and Behaviors,” emphasizing the connection between thought patterns, emotional responses, and actions. This was followed by a session led by Mx. Jason Calderon, who discussed “Addictive Behaviors,” guiding clients in identifying unhealthy behavioral patterns and adopting healthier coping mechanisms to support lasting recovery.
Complementing these psychosocial and educational interventions, the center also conducted daily afternoon Zumba sessions and recreational sports activities to promote physical fitness, relieve stress, and enhance the overall well-being of the clients.
Through its sustained rehabilitation initiatives, the South Cotabato Balay Silangan Reformatory Center reaffirms the Provincial Government of South Cotabato’s commitment to promoting recovery, restoring lives, and building safer, healthier, and drug-free communities.
