Koronadal City, South Cotabato-The South Cotabato Provincial Hospital (SCPH) successfully performed gynecologic surgeries on 16 patients during the first day of its three-day OB-GYN Surgical Mission, which runs until Aug. 7.
The surgical mission aims to provide free specialized gynecologic procedures to women in South Cotabato who require surgical intervention but have limited access to such services.
Dr. Marilyn Abantao, chief of hospital of SCPH, said the activity reflects the hospital’s continuing commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare services for women in the province.
“This surgical mission is part of our commitment to provide timely, safe, and quality healthcare services to women who need specialized treatment. Through the support of our partners, we can bring these services closer to our patients,” Abantao said.
The first day of the activity brought together obstetrician-gynecologists, anesthesiologists, nurses, operating room personnel, and other healthcare professionals who conducted the procedures at the provincial hospital.
“More patients are expected to undergo gynecologic procedures on the remaining two days of the mission, which will continue until August 7 as SCPH, and its partners work to improve access to specialized women’s healthcare services in South Cotabato,” Abantao shared.
Meanwhile, Fatima Dimalanes, 56, a mother from Tantangan, expressed deep gratitude for the financial relief brought by the surgical mission. Dimalanes and her family rely solely on farming for their daily living.

The mission is being implemented through the initiative of the Provincial Government of South Cotabato under Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr., in partnership with the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society–South Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat Chapter, the South Cotabato Medical Society, and the Rotary Club of Koronadal.
Hospital officials said the successful completion of the first day’s procedures was made possible through the coordinated efforts of the medical specialists, healthcare workers, volunteers, and partner organizations involved in the activity.
