KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato — South Cotabato Provincial Hospital (SCPH) strengthened its emergency response capacity as at least 20 health workers underwent Basic Life Support (BLS) training aimed at enhancing their knowledge, practical skills, and preparedness in responding to life-threatening emergencies.
SCPH Chief of Hospital II Dr. Marilyn S. Abantao said strengthening the skills of healthcare workers is an important part of ensuring that patients receive timely, safe, and quality care.
“We want our personnel to be equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to provide safe and responsive care to our patients,” Abantao said.
The two-day training, held early last week, covered emergency care, initial patient stabilization, BLS procedures, cardiac arrest response, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), automated external defibrillator (AED) use, rescue breathing, and foreign body airway obstruction management.
Lewanie Bolivar, RN, MAN, discussed the principles of emergency care, while James Darryl Agustin, RN, RM, CNN, MAN, led the sessions on BLS principles and response algorithms.
Participants also received instruction from Romeo Fontanilla, RN, on cardiac arrest, CPR, and AED use. Merwille Gallego discussed rescue breathing, while Danny Jether Duron tackled foreign body airway obstruction management.
The training was also supported by SCPH Administrative Officer Arvin Ian V. Robles, MPA, as part of the hospital’s continuing capacity-building efforts.
Through the training, participants gained practical knowledge and skills that strengthened their understanding and preparedness in responding to life-threatening emergencies.
The activity forms part of SCPH’s continuing efforts to develop a more capable and prepared healthcare workforce that can respond appropriately to emergencies and provide immediate care when patients need it most.
