Koronadal City| October 2, 2025 – The South Cotabato Rehabilitation and Detention Center (SCRDC) is set for the opening of the Prison Awareness Month this October 6, according to Warden Barney Condes.
Warden Condes shared that a series of activities has been prepared for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) to promote engagement, wellness, and personal growth inside the facility.
Among the lined-up events are a mural painting contest, sports competitions, a therapeutic community ladderized program for female PDLs, a mental health symposium, and the much-anticipated Macho Gay singing contest.
“These activities are designed not only to give our PDLs an avenue for recreation and self-expression but also to encourage them to participate actively in programs that foster discipline, creativity, and camaraderie,” Warden Condes said.
He also assured the public that in light of recent issues, the management has put security as a top priority during the month-long observance.
“We have enough personnel to handle the security throughout the event to ensure that no escape will happen. Under my management, we will be strict and disciplined, because this is for the greater good of the facility, the personnel, and the PDLs themselves,” Condes emphasized.
The SCRDC joins other correctional institutions nationwide in celebrating Prison Awareness Month, which aims to shed light on the challenges and rehabilitation efforts for PDLs, while also recognizing the role of correctional facilities in promoting second chances and social reintegration.
