Search for Model Schools in Solid Waste Management Update… Evaluators conduct initial consolidation of results

Evaluators of the Search for Model Schools in Solid Waste Management, which is.an annual project of the Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO), conducted the consolidation of results on August 7 after the unannounced initial evaluation was held during the last week of July up to the first week of August .

The evaluators are Leo Atangan of the Provincial Environment Management Office, Fruto Sumagaysay Jr. of the Provincial Information Office, Hayd-Ali Suwaib of the Department of Interior and Local Government, Merlyn Dagum of the Department of Education, Bai Soraya Meditar of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environment Management Bureau and Gemma Guyos of South Cotabato Foundation Inc.

The initial evaluation is equivalent to 40 percentage points while the final evaluation, which will be held on the last week of September up to the first week of October, is equivalent o 60 percentage points.

Nineteen (19) schools, both in the elementary and high school categories, joined this year’s province-wide Search.

In the elementary category, the schools are Lopez Jaena Elementary School (Norala), Sto. Nino Central Elementary School (Sto. Nino), Lugan Central Elementary School (T’boli), Moloy Elementary School (Surallah), Liwanay Elementary School (Banga), Koronadal Central Elementary School II (Koronadal City),Palkan Elementary School (Polomolok), Bukay Pait Elementary School (Tantangan), Tampakan Central Elementary School (Tampakan) and Kalkam Elementary School (Tupi).

Likewise, participating schools in the high school category are Sergio Legayada National High School (Norala), Guinsang-an National High School (Sto. Nino), T’boli National High School (T’boli), Surallah National High School Surallah), Rang-ay Integrated School (Banga), Marbel 7 National High School (Koronadal City),Cebuano National High School (Tupi), Tampakan National High School (Tampakan) and Poblacion Polomolok National High School (Polomolok).

The criteria of the contest are as follows: System and Process (60%); Organization and Support System (30%); Cleanliness and Beatification (5%) and Community Participation (5%)

Prizes at stake for the winners are P30,000.00 (First Prize); P20,000.00 (Second Prize); P15,000.00 (Third Prize); P10,000.00 (Fourth Prize) and P8,000.00 (Fifth Prize).

A consolation prize of P5,000.00 will also be given to non-winners provided they met the basic requirements of the contest.

Special Awards in Documentation, IEC, Recycling, Organic Garden and Composting are also at stake.

Awarding of Winners will be held on November which coincided with the celebration of International Environment Consciousness Month, Climate Change Month and Clean Air Month.

An Environmental Quiz Bee and Poster-Making contest will also be conducted before the awarding program
