Second wave of supplementary feeding program strengthens nutrition support for young children in South Cotabato

South Cotabato, Philippines —The Office of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer (OPSWDO), in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), continues the implementation of the second part of the Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP) across various Child Development Centers in South Cotabato.

According to Sonia Bautista, RSW, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer, the Supplementary Feeding Program remains a vital intervention in addressing child malnutrition and ensuring that every child can grow healthy and strong.

“The Supplementary Feeding Program is more than providing meals—it is an investment in the future of our children. By ensuring that they receive proper nutrition during their early years, we are helping lay the foundation for their physical, cognitive, and social development. Through our partnership with the DSWD and local government units, we remain committed to reaching every child who needs support,” Bautista said.

The program provides nutritious meals to child beneficiaries, reinforcing the collective commitment of government agencies and local partners to combat malnutrition and promote the healthy growth and development of young children during their formative years.

Through the ongoing feeding activities, beneficiaries receive safe, adequate, and nutritious food designed to support their nutritional needs and overall well-being. The initiative also contributes to improving children’s health outcomes, enabling them to actively participate in early childhood education and development programs.

Meanwhile, Merly L. Democrito, a Daycare Worker, highlighted the positive impact of the program on the children attending Child Development Centers.

“We have seen how the children benefit from the nutritious meals provided through the Supplementary Feeding Program. Many of them have become more active, attentive, and enthusiastic in participating in classroom activities. This initiative not only supports their nutritional needs but also encourages regular attendance and engagement in early learning,” Democrito shared.

The continued implementation of the Second Wave of the Supplementary Feeding Program reflects the strong collaboration among the OPSWDO, DSWD, local government units, and community stakeholders in advancing child welfare and nutrition in South Cotabato.

As the program moves forward, the Provincial Government remains steadfast in its commitment to building a healthier future for every young South Cotabateño by ensuring access to proper nutrition and quality early childhood care and development services.
