SOCCSKSARGEN celebrates Nat’l Statistics Month

CITY OF KORONADAL — The Regional Statistics Committee (RSC) of the Regional Development Council (RDC) 12 spearheaded the observance of the 26th National Statistics Month (NSM) on October with this year’s theme, “Pagyamanain at Gamitin ang Estadistika, Kalusugan Para Sa Lahat ay Abot-Kamay Na!”

Department of Health (DOH) presented the performance of the Philippines in the UN-mandated Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) which will end in 2015 during a technical presentation on October 6 held at FB Hotel and Convention Center, this city, as this year’s NSM celebration host.

Aside from the country’s MDG performance, DOH likewise highlighted the HIV/AIDS situation in the country which is rising in an alarming rate of 1 newly-diagnosed HIV case per day in 2008 to 22 newly-diagnosed HIV case per day in 2015.

Dr. Francisco Mateo, ARD of DOH 12, represented Regional Director Dr. Teogenes Baluma as the Keynote Speaker.

Prior to the NSM Opening Program, a motorcade joined by different partner agencies was conducted from City Hall up to the Convention Center.

Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) 12 Regional Director Maqtahar Manulon and RSC 12 Vice-Chairperson formally welcomed the participants of the activity.

Dr. Arturo Valero, Regional Director of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) 12 and RDC-RSC 12 Chair, and Herlita Caraan, OIC-SOCD of PSA 12, likewise gave their respective message.

            The 2nd World Statistics Day which also celebrated on October 20 and part of the NSM celebration has a theme of “Better Data. Better Lives.”
