KORONADAL CITY-In a significant move aimed at improving the quality of electricity services in South Cotabato, the management of the South Cotabato Electric Cooperative 1 (SOCOTECO 1) recently met with Governor Renaldo S. Tamayo Jr. for a pivotal discussion to address critical concerns related to the power supply in the province and formulate plans, providing more reliable and affordable electricity to consumers.
Governor Tamayo, who is aware of the vital role electricity plays in sustaining the province’s economic growth, emphasized that the high cost of electricity is one of the major barriers to attracting new investments.
“The cost of electricity is a key factor in economic development. If we want to encourage potential investors to come to South Cotabato, we need to provide them with affordable and reliable Electricity source. Tamayo said.
He acknowledged that potential investors often consider the cost of utilities, particularly electricity, when deciding where to invest.
For South Cotabato, this means that the high energy prices could discourage business development and expansion within the province.
However, recent concerns have emerged about the rising cost of electricity in the province, with many local residents and businesses expressing dissatisfaction with the high prices compared to neighboring provinces.
These rising costs, compounded by inconsistent supply and service quality, have become a significant point of contention for the community.
SOCOTECO 1, a primary electric cooperative, serves the entire province of South Cotabato particularly towns in the second and third districts of the province.
