CITY OF KORONADAL — Technical Working Group (TWG) members of 2016 Search for Model Schools in Solid Waste Management met recently to discuss the mechanics, guidelines, criteria, prizes and schedule of evaluations of the annual contest at Shiela’s Park, this city.

To further level up this year’s contest which is now on its 9th year, the TWG revised some portions of the criteria and increased the cash incentives particularly for major prize winners.

Likewise, the TWG set the schedule of the 2 unannounced evaluations which adopted the “window period” scheme.

The tentative schedule for the initial evaluation will run starting on the last week of July up to the first week of August while the final evaluation will be from the first week up to the second week of October.

Meanwhile, major prize winners will now receive P50,000.00 for the First Prize, P30,000.00 for the Second Prize and P20,000.00 for the Third Prize, while the Fourth and Fifth Prizes were retained at P10,000.00 and P8,000.00, respectively.

The organizer will still give 6 Special Awards worth P5,000.00 for Best in Recycling, Best in Documentation, Best in Information and Education Campaign, Best in Composting, Best in Organic Garden and Best in Community Participation.

The TWG plans to call for a meeting with DepED officials and City / Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officers this coming to June to discuss the revised contest mechanics to give participating schools sufficient time to prepare prior to the contest proper.

During the awarding ceremony slated on November, the 5th South Cotabato Recyclable Waste Fair will be held as well as an Environmental Quiz Bee which is open to all elementary pupils and high school students.

November every year is celebrated as Environmental Awareness Month, Clean Air Month and Climate Change Consciousness Week.

The TWG is composed of representatives from the Provincial Environment Management Office as Head Secretariat, Provincial Information Office, Department of Interior and Local Government Provincial Office, Department of Education City and Provincial School Divisions, Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environment Management Bureau 12 and NGO South Cotabato Foundation Inc.
