South Coatabato confirms omicron case, says patient recovered

Koronadal City, South Cotabato—Health officials here confirmed case of omicron variant of COVID-19 in South Cotabato as of Janaury 6,2022 in a press briefing held earlier.

Dr. Rogelio Aturdido, Provincial Health Officer, said the patient came from Australia.

“The patients has recovered,” Aturdido said.

Cecil Lorenzo, Disease Surveillance Officer, said the patient is a 15-year-old male who experienced mild symptoms like cough and runny nose last December 2021.

“The rest of his family tested negative,” Lorenzo said, stressing that the patient did not transmit the virus because he immediately isolate himself.
According to Lorenzo, the patient attended a church mass and went to a barber shop.

Initial studies associate omicron variant  to evade immune protection and transmits easily.

“More transmission, more mutation,” Aturdido reiterated the World Health Organization’s warning.
