South Cotabato achieves 93.7% literacy rate, ranks 9th nationwide

KORONADAL CITY, SOUTH COTABATO – Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr. proudly highlighted the remarkable literacy rate of South Cotabato during a meeting with the Department of Education (DepEd) Region XII.

The discussion focused on the sustained implementation of the province’s free and inclusive education program, addressing shortages in school resources, and ensuring the repair and renovation of classroom facilities.

Governor Tamayo also emphasized that one of his priorities in his remaining term is to strengthen and expand education programs aimed at empowering the youth of South Cotabato.

According to 2024 data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), South Cotabato has a 93.7% basic literacy rate, the highest in the region, and ranks 9th nationwide.

This achievement reflects the capability of South Cotabato’s youth to read and write with comprehension and perform essential arithmetic, underscoring the province’s commitment to quality education.
