KORONADAL CITY — Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr. expressed confidence that South Cotabato will maintain and even boost its economic momentum in 2027, citing improved governance, enhanced collaboration with the private sector, and the province’s continually expanding industries.
During his regular “Meet the Press” briefing on Monday, May 25, Tamayo highlighted the province’s impressive 6. 6.9 percent Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate, making South Cotabato the fastest- growing economy in the SOCCSKSARGEN region.
The figure also surpassed regional and national growth averages, reflecting what the governor called the province’s “broad- based and inclusive” development.
“Napakaganda, dahil nakaka- amaze ang GDP na meron tayo na 6. 9 %. Isa ito sa pinakamataas sa buong rehiyon at makikita rin ang pag- angat nito sa buong Pilipinas,” Tamayo said.
The governor credited the economic progress to the combined efforts of government agencies, local businesses, investors, and private-sector stakeholders. He noted that coordinated development programs and investments have significantly boosted the province’ s economic performance.
Tamayo observed that growth has been balanced among agriculture, services, and industrial sectors — an indicator of a stable, diversified economy. Despite this positive trend, he emphasized that agriculture still holds the greatest potential for expansion and remains a priority for the provincial government.
“Iyong pag- angat halos pantay sa agriculture, services, at industries. Pero makikita natin na malaki pa ang room for improvement sa agriculture, at iyon naman ang malaking potensyal ng South Cotabato,” he added.
As a major agricultural producer, South Cotabato continues to strengthen initiatives for modernizing farming, improving market access for local farmers, and attracting investments in agri- based industries. Officials believe these efforts will unlock more economic opportunities, especially in rural communities.
Tamayo also forecasted stronger economic results next year, optimistic that GDP performance will improve further as new infrastructure projects, investments, and business collaborations unfold.
“Ibig sabihin, by next year, gaganda pa lalo ang GDP natin. Mayroon pang room para mas mapaganda ang GDP natin,” the governor said.
He encouraged the business community to maintain healthy competition and innovation, stressing that active involvement from entrepreneurs and investors is essential for long- term economic growth.
With its expanding economy, improving investment climate, and ongoing government- private sector collaboration, South Cotabato is positioning itself as one of the rising economic centers in southern Philippines.
