South Cotabato assesses child development centers in Tupi

TUPI, SOUTH COTABATO — The Provincial Government of South Cotabato, through the Office of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer (OPSWDO), continues to strengthen the delivery of quality Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) services by conducting a three-day External Assessment of selected Child Development Centers (CDCs) in the Municipality of Tupi.

The assessment aimed to determine the quality of ECCD services provided to young children by reviewing program implementation across several areas, including the learning environment, facilities, health and safety provisions, available learning resources, and the overall delivery of developmentally appropriate activities.

According to Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Sonia L. Bautista, the External Assessment should not be viewed merely as an inspection or compliance activity but as an important mechanism for continuously improving ECCD services.

“Every assessment is an opportunity to recognize the good practices of our Child Development Centers, identify areas that need improvement, and provide the necessary support to strengthen the delivery of ECCD services further. Our goal is to ensure that every child is provided with a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment where they can learn and thrive,” Bautista said.

It also assessed the commitment and performance of Child Development Workers (CDWs), who play a vital role in creating safe, nurturing, inclusive, and child-friendly spaces where young children can learn, grow, and develop.

The participating Child Development Centers were:

  • BS Aquino CDC
  • Tukay-el CDC
  • Sitio Acfaon CDC
  • Tubeng CDC
  • Limblisong CDC
  • Tinago CDC
  • Sitio Tucalabong CDC
  • Sitio San Pedro CDC
  • Melchor Hatulan CDC
  • Sitio San Roque CDC

“The assessment also highlighted the importance of maintaining quality standards in early childhood programs, particularly by ensuring that learning environments are responsive to the needs of young children,” Bautista said.

Beyond evaluating compliance with established standards, the activity served as a venue for identifying effective practices that may be sustained and replicated, while also determining areas where interventions, technical assistance, and further capacity-building may be necessary.

The initiative underscores the Provincial Government’s commitment to investing in children’s early years, recognizing that quality early childhood experiences provide a strong foundation for lifelong learning, health, development, and well-being.

Through continuous monitoring, assessment, and improvement of ECCD programs, the provincial government and its partners remain committed to building stronger, safer, and more responsive Child Development Centers across South Cotabato.

The three-day External Assessment in Tupi is part of the continuing efforts of the OPSWDO to ensure that ECCD services remain responsive to the needs of children, families, and communities, consistent with the province’s commitment to providing Tama kag Maayo nga Serbisyo for every South Cotabateño.
