South Cotabato,Philipines| September 17, 2025 – Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) have completed a refresher course to enhance their skills and strengthen grassroots health services.
For many participants, the training provided not only technical updates but also a renewed sense of purpose. Edlyn Calarjarenita, an eight-year BNS from Barangay M. Roxas in Sto. Niño described the course as a timely boost to her service.
“Even after all these years, I discovered new techniques that will help me serve my community better,” she said.
Calarjarenita said the sessions highlighted not just skills, but the deeper value of their service.
“The honorarium may be small, but the fulfillment from helping families is immeasurable. As BNS workers, we are role models and advocates for healthier communities,” she shared.
She noted that the training reminded her of the ongoing challenges but left her more prepared to respond effectively.
Calarjarenita expressed her gratitude to Governor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. and the provincial leadership, noting that programs like the refresher course motivate BNS workers to continue serving their communities.
The refresher course, organized by the Office of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development (OPSWD) in partnership with the Provincial Nutrition Office, centered on strengthening BNS workers’ skills in accurate data documentation, early detection of malnutrition, and effective family and community engagement
The refresher course reflects South Cotabato’s commitment to strengthening its frontliners and ensuring consistent, community-level nutrition services for families.
