Koronadal City, South Cotabato | December 6, 2025 — South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr., together with key provincial department heads, made a courtesy visit to the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo during their personal trip to Japan. Despite the informal nature of the travel, the delegation took the opportunity to reinforce diplomatic ties and explore possible avenues for international cooperation.
The group was welcomed by Philippine Ambassador to Japan Mylene Garcia-Albano, who expressed her support for South Cotabato’s continuing development efforts.
According to Provincial Information Officer Rudy Jimenea, the visit demonstrates the provincial government’s proactive mindset in seeking global perspectives that can inspire local innovations.
“Even though this is a personal trip of the Governor and the department heads, we still maximize every chance to learn from international partners,” Jimenea said.
He said the exposure allows our leaders to see firsthand how effective governance systems operate in other countries.

Jimenea emphasized that such engagements help broaden the province’s development outlook.
“Governor Tamayo wants our department heads to immerse themselves in environments where strong governance thrives, so we can adapt approaches that will genuinely benefit the communities of South Cotabato,” he stressed.
During the meeting, Ambassador Garcia-Albano shared insights on how local governments can build strategic linkages with Japanese institutions.
These potential collaborations, Jimenea noted, are particularly relevant to priority sectors such as agriculture, health, disaster resilience, culture, tourism, and education.
The delegation also discussed exploratory cooperation programs, as well as the possibility of establishing a sisterhood agreement with one of the prefectures in Japan.
Jimenea said the provincial government is optimistic about the visit’s positive ripple effects.
“This trip is not just ceremonial,” he said. “It is an investment in knowledge, in partnerships, and in creating long-term impact for the people of South Cotabato.”
He added that the provincial government aims to bring home new ideas and successful development models that can enhance public service delivery.
The informal Japan visit is part of a week-long personal trip, which the delegation also used as an opportunity to observe governance frameworks, technology-driven solutions, and community development practices across various Japanese agencies and institutions.
