South Cotabato cassava farmers poised for expanded market opportunities through Daesang partnership

KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato — Cassava farmers in South Cotabato are expected to benefit from expanded market opportunities following a productive meeting between representatives of Daesang Philippines Corporation, the Provincial Government of South Cotabato, and local agricultural cooperatives.

The meeting brought together Provincial Agriculturist Raul D. Teves, Mr. Chris Jayke S. Pacamalan, representative of Daesang Philippines Corporation, and officials from three local cooperatives: Topland Multi-Purpose Cooperative, POLO SN Multi-Purpose Cooperative, and San Jose Multi-Purpose Cooperative.

“This partnership initiative aims to strengthen market linkages for our cassava farmers by creating more purchasing opportunities and establishing a sustainable relationship with industry partners. Through collaboration with Daesang Philippines Corporation, we hope to provide our producers with a more stable and reliable market that will help improve their livelihoods and encourage increased agricultural productivity,” Teves shared.

Teves also said the province is building a long-term partnership between the cooperatives and Daesang Philippines Corporation, a major tapioca starch manufacturer, to provide farmers with a more stable and reliable market for their harvests.

He welcomed the initiative, emphasizing the importance of creating sustainable market opportunities that can help increase farmers’ incomes and further develop the province’s cassava industry.

Meanwhile, Pacamalan expressed optimism about South Cotabato’s potential as a dependable source of cassava for the company.

“The deliveries of fresh cassava tubers from the participating cooperatives are set to begin this week, marking the start of a new marketing partnership between local producers and the private sector.” Pacalaman noted.

Provincial officials said the initiative represents a significant step toward strengthening collaboration among government agencies, farmer cooperatives, and private industry partners to promote agricultural growth and create more economic opportunities for cassava growers across South Cotabato.

This partnership is expected to enhance market access, improve farmers’ profitability, and contribute to the continued expansion of the province’s cassava sector.
