South Cotabato, CSOs partner for better governance

South Cotabato, Philippines – The Provincial Government of South Cotabato under the leadership of Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr., has been continuously strengthening its participatory governance through the involvement and partnership of civil society organizations (CSO)  in the Provincial Project Monitoring Council.

Spearheaded by the Office of the Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator, the Province’s local project monitoring council is composed of various concerned offices within the Provincial Government with the involvement also of representatives from the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs)

According to Carlito Y. Uy, chairperson of the Provincial Project Monitoring Council, the members of the CSOs serve as another ‘eye’ in monitoring ongoing and completed projects in the province.

“We’re not merely here as on compliance, but we are here to provide a third-person point-of-view on the quality and location of the projects the Provincial Government is implementing,” Uy said.

Furthermore, Uy added that he assures that the CSO-members of the PPMC are upholding integrity in conducting these monitoring – which Uy further stated that their contribution on the PPMC assures that the projects implemented by the Provincial Government are in accordance with the plans and standards.

Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr., has since then reaffirmed his unwavering support in the participation of CSOs in project monitoring.

“It is really important that we have the participation of the private sector-the CSOs, – in the implementation and monitoring of our projects in the province. In this way, we can assure that we let them [CSOs] have a voice in our governance,” Governor Tamayo said.

The Provincial Project Monitoring Committee frequently holds their quarterly monitoring in collaboration with various CSOs in the Province and other concerned Provincial Government Offices to streamline and monitor the delivery of infrastructure projects in the Province.

The Province of South Cotabato consistently been awarded by the Department of Interior and Local Government Region XII for its outstanding performance in the Province’s project monitoring.
