LAKE SEBU, SOUTH COTABATO — The Provincial Government of South Cotabato culminates its 52nd Provincial Nutrition Month Celebration today, July 29, at the Lake Sebu Municipal Gymnasium, bringing together nutrition advocates, local government officials, and community health workers to reaffirm the province’s commitment to food and nutrition security.
Anchored on the national theme, “Sa PPAN: Sama-sama sa Nutrisyong Sapat Para sa Lahat!,” the event will highlight collaborative efforts to combat malnutrition and promote sustainable nutrition interventions across the province.
Provincial Nutrition Action Officer and Provincial Information Officer Rudy S. Jimenea said the celebration serves as a platform to recognize the contributions of nutrition stakeholders while strengthening efforts to improve the nutritional status of every South Cotabateño.
“Nutrition is a shared responsibility. Through stronger partnerships among government agencies, local government units, and communities, we can ensure that every family has access to safe, nutritious, and sufficient food,” Jimenea stressed.
Among the major highlights of the event are the Product Display Contest, Cooking Contest, and Nutrition Quiz Show for Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) and Barangay Health Workers (BHWs), which aim to promote creativity, knowledge-sharing, and practical nutrition strategies at the community level.
According to Noeleen P. Dumadag, RND, Nutrition Officer II, the celebration recognizes the dedication of nutrition workers and partners in promoting better nutrition practices.
“The celebration strengthens our commitment to provide better nutrition services and showcase the efforts of our nutrition workers in addressing malnutrition,” Dumadag said.
She emphasized the vital role of BNS and BHWs in bringing nutrition programs closer to families and communities.
Meanwhile, Angela Frugalidad, RND, Community Affairs Officer IV, said the activities serve as a venue to promote awareness and inspire communities to prioritize proper nutrition.
“Beyond the competitions, this celebration reminds us that nutrition is a continuing commitment. Through innovation, advocacy, and teamwork, we can encourage practices that lead to healthier and more resilient communities,” Frugalidad said.
The Provincial Government of South Cotabato continues to strengthen nutrition advocacy through partnerships and community-based initiatives aligned with the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN), advancing efforts toward a healthier and malnutrition-free province.
