South Cotabato distributes radios to expand information access in remote communities

KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato, Philiippines | March 30, 2026 — The Provincial Government of South Cotabato has expanded its grassroots information drive by distributing radio sets to underserved communities, ensuring wider access to government programs and services.

The Office of the Provincial Information Officer (OPIO) distributed 50 radio units to Barangay Miasong in Tupi and Purok Masipag, Barangay Lumakil in Polomolok. Beneficiaries were identified under the Convergence Approach for Transformation and Change–Unification Program (CATCH-UP), which targets geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas.

Provincial Information Officer Rudy Jimenea said the initiative aims to bridge information gaps in communities with limited access to media platforms.

“Importante gid nga may access ang aton mga kabarangayan sa impormasyon. Ang radyo isa sa pinakaepektibo nga paagi para maabot naton ang mga lugar nga wala internet ukon limitado ang signal,” Jimenea said.

He added that radio remains a reliable medium, especially in remote areas, where access to digital platforms is still limited. Studies show that radio continues to be a key source of information on government programs, particularly on health, agriculture, and social services.

The initiative builds on earlier efforts of the provincial government to distribute radio sets to communities, recognizing that access to timely information improves awareness and participation in public programs.

Chris Fuentes, representing CATCH-UP, said the distribution supports the program’s goal of inclusive and coordinated service delivery.

“Ang CATCH-UP naga-identify sang mga underserved areas. Ini nga radio distribution isa ka paagi agud mas mapalapad ang paghatag sang serbisyo kag impormasyon sa mga komunidad nga kulang sang access,” Fuentes said.

He emphasized that informed communities are better equipped to access government services and respond to issues affecting their daily lives.

Community radio and localized broadcasting play a crucial role in development, especially in rural areas, by delivering relevant information and giving communities a voice in local governance.

With the distribution of radio units, the provincial government strengthens its commitment to ensure that no community is left behind—bringing essential information closer to every South Cotabateño, regardless of location.
