KORONADAL CITY, SOUTH COTABATO – The Provincial Government of South Cotabato is strengthening its commitment to a healthy, productive and responsive public workforce through the 2026 Inter Cluster Sports Competition, one of the activities organized as part of the celebration of the 126th Philippine Civil Service Commission Anniversary.
The activity supports the Civil Service Anniversary 10-year theme, “Transforming Public Service in the Next Decade: Honing Agile and Future Ready Servant Heroes,” which emphasizes the need for a government workforce that is capable, adaptable and committed to delivering quality public service. The Philippine Civil Service Anniversary commemorates the establishment of the Philippine Civil Service on September 19, 1900, through Public Law No. 5.
Harzelen Mae Laconse, Administrative Officer II of the Office of the Provincial Human Resource Management Officer (OPHRMO), said the sports competition is part of the provincial government’s effort to promote wellness among its employees while strengthening teamwork and relationships across offices.
“This activity is one of the commitments of the Provincial Government of South Cotabato to maintain a healthy workplace. A healthy workplace helps build a productive, efficient and responsive public service. Through this competition, employees are given an opportunity to stay active while developing teamwork, camaraderie, friendship and sportsmanship. These values are important because a stronger and healthier workforce can better serve the people of South Cotabato,” Laconse said.
For this year’s competition, employees from four clusters are participating in men’s and women’s volleyball, men’s basketball, men’s and women’s doubles pickleball, and mixed doubles pickleball.
The competition was formally supported by the administration through an oath of sportsmanship led by Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr., underscoring the importance of fair play, discipline and respect among participating employees.
The opening volleyball matches featured Cluster 3 against Cluster 4, with Cluster 3 emerging as the winner in the men’s division.
Selwyn L. Figueroa, a men’s volleyball player representing Cluster 3, attributed their victory to teamwork and expressed hope that their team would continue its momentum throughout the competition.
“This activity is an opportunity for provincial government employees to build stronger relationships beyond our regular duties,” Figueroa said.
He said the competition creates an avenue for employees to develop bonds and friendships while enjoying healthy physical activity.
The initiative reflects the provincial government’s people-centered approach to governance, recognizing that effective public service begins with employees who are physically active, mentally engaged and able to work well with others.
By investing in employee wellness and workplace relationships, the provincial government seeks to strengthen the capacity of its workforce to provide accessible, efficient and responsive services to the people.
The 2026 Inter Cluster Sports Competition also provides government employees with an avenue to practice discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship while promoting a culture of wellness within the provincial government.
Through initiatives such as this, the administration of Governor Tamayo continues to emphasize that caring for public servants is part of building a stronger institution capable of delivering better service to the community.
