South Cotabato enlists 307 year-round SPES beneficiaries

KORONADAL CITY- The provincial government of South Cotabato has enlisted at least 307 beneficiaries that will comprise the third batch of the year-round Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) which is set to kick-off on August 14, the Public Employment Services Office (PESO) announces.

Flora Cavan, Labor and Employment Officer 1, said the 20-day working days of the student-beneficiaries will end on October 18. Cavan said, each SPES beneficiary will receive Php477.73 salary per day or at least P10, 000 after his 20 days working stint.

Mandated under Republic Act No. 7323, the provincial government as the employer is set to shoulder 60% of the daily wage of the beneficiary while the DOLE will shoulder the 40% of the salary. However, Cavan disclosed “the Provincial Government of South Cotabato will shoulder the full payment of the 307 SPES beneficiaries,” Jhan Chiene Maravilla, one of the beneficiaries of the SPES program said, it is of big help on her studies considering she is a self-supporting student. “Salamat at nabigyan ako ng pagkakataon. Malaki ang tulong nito upang ako ay makatapos ng pag-aaral.” She said.

Meanwhile, the applicants need to submit: Photocopy of Birth Certificate, passport size picture, barangay certificate of indigence, and BIR certificate if parents are employed, photocopy of report card and certificate of good moral from the barangay (for out-of-school youth beneficiary). “The salary will be released as soon as they complied and submitted their credentials such as daily time record and daily accomplishment report,” Cavan said.

PESO conducted an orientation Monday for the 3rd batch of SPES beneficiaries for further instructions and contract signing of parents.

The Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) is a nationwide program of the Department of Labor and Employment in cooperation with local government units and other private establishments which aim to help poor but deserving students to continue their education by way of providing them employment opportunities.
