South Cotabato expands animal dispersal program to strengthen livelihoods

South Cotabato, Philippines — The Provincial Government of South Cotabato, under the leadership of Governor Reynaldo “Jun” Tamayo, Jr., continues to strengthen food security and improve the livelihoods of local communities through its ongoing Animal Dispersal Program.

As part of the province’s commitment to empowering farmers, youth, and women’s organizations, a total of 150 heads of poultry were distributed to partner beneficiaries in Tupi, Koronadal City, and Banga during a series of dispersal activities conducted in June.

Recently, the 4H Club Cebuano in Tupi received 50 chickens to support youth-led agricultural and poultry production projects.

Meanwhile, on June 24, 2026, the Carpenter Hill Women’s Association (CAHIWA) in Koronadal City was awarded 50 ducklings, providing members with an additional source of sustainable livelihood.

On the same day, the RST Federation – Banga Chapter also received 50 ducklings to help strengthen community-based agricultural production and income generation.

According to Dr. Kelvin Lucena, Veterinarian IV and APDC In-Charge, the Animal Dispersal Program is designed to create long-term economic benefits for beneficiaries.

“The animal dispersal program transforms a single animal into a sustainable production cycle. By providing the initial breeder, we empower farmers to build a diversified livestock portfolio—meaning they aren’t just raising one animal for sale but are managing a growing herd that acts as a ‘living savings account.'”

He added that beyond livestock production, the initiative contributes significantly to poverty reduction by providing families with a reliable and sustainable source of income.

Through programs like these, the Provincial Government of South Cotabato continues to invest in resilient communities, promote agricultural development, and create lasting opportunities that improve the quality of life of its people.
