Polomolok, South Cotabato — The Office of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officee (OPDRRMO)–South Cotabato provided relief assistance to a total of 83 families affected by recent weather-related incidents in the Municipality of Polomolok.
Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to ensuring that assistance reaches affected communities as quickly as possible.
“Our priority is to make sure that every family affected by disasters receives the assistance they need without delay. Through the collective efforts of our responders and local government partners, we will continue delivering timely and compassionate services to help our communities recover and become more resilient.” Tamayo said.
The beneficiaries include 57 families displaced by the flash flood and rain-induced landslide that struck Purok Tenifulan in Barangay Maligo and Purok Kawit in Barangay Landan on July 4, as well as 26 families affected by heavy rains and strong winds in Barangay Sumbakil.
To help address their immediate needs, the Provincial Government of South Cotabato, through the OPDRRMO, distributed food packs and hygiene kits to the affected families as part of its continuing disaster response operations.
The OPDRRMO–South Cotabato continues to closely monitor weather-related incidents across the province and remains ready to provide immediate response and humanitarian assistance to affected communities, in line with the Provincial Government’s commitment to Tama kag Maayo nga Serbisyo.
The weather-related incidents were triggered by the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat), which continues to affect Mindanao, bringing cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over South Cotabato.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the prevailing weather system may produce moderate to occasionally heavy rains that could result in flash floods and rain-induced landslides in vulnerable areas.
