South Cotabato extends relief, deploys health workers to Cebu quake victims

KORONADAL CITY – The Provincial Government of South Cotabato is showing its support and solidarity to the province of Cebu, which was hit by a powerful magnitude 6.9 earthquake on Tuesday night, a disaster official confirmed on Wednesday.

Rolly Doane C. Aquino, head of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), said Governor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr., has ordered the immediate preparation of food packs and non-food relief items for the quake victims.

In response, South Cotabato will send thousands of relief packs on Wednesday, including food supplies, hygiene kits, sleeping kits, and kitchen essentials.

“These will be flown to Cebu within the day,” Aquino said, adding that his office has coordinated with the Cebu PDRRMO and the office of Cebu Governor Pam Baricuatro to facilitate the relief operations.

Additionally, two doctors and seven nurses from the South Cotabato Provincial Hospital (SCPH) and Norala District Hospital (NDH) will be deployed to the affected areas.

Aquino highlighted that the governor’s directive not only shows the provincial government’s preparedness to handle emergencies but also reflects the lasting bayanihan spirit of the people of South Cotabato, who stay committed to helping fellow Filipinos during disasters.
