South Cotabato gov highlights gains in peace and order at RPOC meeting

Koronadal City, South Cotabato | August 6, 2025 – Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr., Chairperson of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC), emphasized significant progress in peace and order across Region 12 during the recently held RPOC meeting, citing strong collaboration between national and local government agencies through the Government Regional Peace Framework for Lasting Change and Progress (GRPFL-CAP) and the implementation of Executive Order No. 70.

According to Governor Tamayo, of the 900 rebel returnees recorded in the region, 554 came from the province of South Cotabato. This figure reflects the province’s proactive participation in the government’s efforts to end local communist armed conflict.

“Because of our joint efforts, we have been able to deliver government services to areas previously considered insurgency-influenced and unreachable,” the governor said.

He added that essential projects such as water systems and access to education are now being brought to former conflict-affected communities, making it difficult for insurgent groups to regain influence.

Governor Tamayo also revealed that the provincial government has already provided ₱73.9 million worth of assistance to rebel returnees in South Cotabato alone, underscoring the national and local governments’ serious commitment to achieving lasting peace and development.

“Our goal is zero insurgency, and we remain committed to delivering services to everyone,” he stated, reiterating his support as both the RPOC Chairperson and Local Amnesty Board Chairperson.

The governor called for continued support from all national agencies, stressing that unified efforts are key to achieving inclusive peace and long-term progress across the region.
