KORONADAL CITY — Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr., governor of South Cotabato, has completed over 200 consecutive days of walking, jogging, or running between nine and 15 kilometers daily. This personal routine is inspiring a growing culture of fitness across the province, residents say.
Despite his busy schedule as a provincial leader, Tamayo keeps up with his daily exercise routine as part of a larger lifestyle change aimed at improving his health and building discipline.
Along with his physical activity, the governor has adopted a plant-based diet, avoiding meat and rice to support a healthier lifestyle.
“From 115 kilograms, I went down to 75 kilograms. This lifestyle shift has led to a significant personal transformation for me,” Governor Tamayo said.
Residents observe that the governor’s consistency has motivated many South Cotabateños to start their own fitness routines.
At the South Cotabato Sports Complex, mornings and late afternoons now see more people walking, jogging, and exercising. Similar scenes can also be seen along national highways and community roads throughout the province.
Many residents say witnessing the governor’s dedication has inspired them to pursue healthier lifestyles.
For Tamayo, discipline in personal health reflects the same values he upholds in governance — consistency, focus, and long-term commitment.
Supporters believe that the governor’s example shows leadership extends beyond programs and policies, encouraging communities to prioritize wellness and self-discipline in daily life.
As more residents take to the streets, tracks, and open roads for exercise, Tamayo’s daily routine is increasingly viewed not only as a personal achievement but also as a source of inspiration for the province.
