South Cotabato highlights men’s holistic wellness in International Men’s Day celebration

South Cotabato, Philippines | November 19, 2025 — The Provincial Government of South Cotabato placed men’s health and well-being at the forefront as the Office of the Provincial Population Officer (OPPO) actively led this year’s observance of International Men’s Day during the Monday Convocation.

Provincial Population Officer Melanie C. Chiva emphasized that the annual global celebration is more than a date on the calendar—it is a commitment to nurturing a healthier and more supportive community for men across the province.

“This year’s theme, with its call for equal visibility and action for men’s health, highlights the need to broaden the public’s understanding of wellness,” Chiva said.

Population Program Officer I Sam Cyrus M. Bayog explained that men’s well-being should not be confined to physical strength alone.

The importance of addressing emotional, psychological, and social wellness, noting that many men still hesitate to seek help because of societal expectations and stereotypes,” he highlighted.

To bring this advocacy closer to the workforce, OPPO with Technical Education and Skills Development Authority   offered free haircuts, manicure, and pedicure services to provincial government employees.

30 male employees who won the online trivia during the convocation enjoyed these wellness perks—simple but meaningful acts that reflect the government’s effort to promote self-care among its employees.

One of the recipients, Administrative Aide IV Brian Roy F. Jawod of the Office of the Provincial Accountant and a resident of Barangay Carpenter Hill, shared a heartfelt reflection on the significance of the celebration.

He recalled the moment his wife gave birth to their first child—an experience that deeply shaped his sense of responsibility and compassion as a father.

“Bilang isa ka amay, dako man nga privilege nga makabaton sang kasubong sini nga programa,” Jawod said.

He expressed gratitude to the Provincial Government for championing programs that recognize men’s roles, struggles, and well-being. For Jawod, the event reaffirmed a vital message: men’s wellness matters every day—not just on International Men’s Day.
