South Cotabato honors top barangays for exemplary governance with Over ₱6.5 Million in ANGAT: SGLG-B Awards

Koronadal City, South Cotabato — The Provincial Government of South Cotabato recognizes outstanding grassroots leadership and transparent governance as it awards the province’s top-performing barangays during the Provincial Liga Day and ANGAT: SGLG-B Awards held on October 28 at the South Cotabato Gym and Cultural Center.

The ANGAT: SGLG-B Awards, short for Accelerating and Nurturing Good Governance and Accountability at the Grassroots: Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangay is Spearheaded by the Special Projects Division under the Office of the Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator (PPDC)

The program serves as a localized version of the national SGLG program which highlights excellence in local governance by assessing barangay performance across critical areas of leadership, transparency, and community development.

A total of 36 barangays from across the province were nominated for the prestigious recognition, with over ₱6.5 million in total incentives. The top-performing barangay received ₱1 million, while other winners received corresponding cash rewards based on their rankings, all aimed at further strengthening governance initiatives at the barangay level.

Barangay Dajay of Surallah emerged as this year’s Most Outstanding Barangay, followed by Barangay Poblacion, Tampakan; Barangay San Vicente, Sto. Niño; Barangay Poblacion, Tupi; Barangay Concepcion, Koronadal City; and Barangay Polonuling, Tupi.

Hon. Christopher Lazo, Punong Barangay of Dajay, expressed gratitude for the recognition. He disclosed that this is their second time to win the provincial award.

He emphasized how the incentive has empowered them to sustain reforms and improve public services.

This is actually our second time winning the award. The cash prize has greatly helped us improve our facilities and deliver faster and better services to our constituents,” said Lazo.
(“Ikaduha na ini namon nga kadaugan kag dako gid ang nabulig sang amon nadawat sa pagpanami sang mga building kag mas mapadasig sang serbisyo nga ginahatag namon sa katawhan sang amon barangay.”)

The evaluation covered key pillars of good governance, including Financial Administration and Sustainability, Social Protection and Sensitivity, Business Friendliness and Competitiveness, Agricultural Support Services, Basic Education Service Delivery, Excellent Health Governance, and Environmental Management.

Aside from the top performers, the Provincial Government also ensures that all non-winning barangays received a ₱100,000 consolation prize.

Through the ANGAT: SGLG-B Awards, South Cotabato continues to champion good governance at the grassroots which help empower barangay leaders to uphold accountability, integrity, and innovation in serving their communities.
