South Cotabato inspects 10 key infrastructure projects across six LGUs

KORONADAL CITY, SOUTH COTABATO — To ensure that every peso of public funding translates into high-quality roads, safe flood barriers, and clean water systems, the Provincial Government of South Cotabato subjected 10 major infrastructure projects to rigorous on-site inspections across six municipalities during its 3rd Quarterly Project Monitoring.

These projects covered slope protection, water systems, multi-purpose buildings, road concreting, and flood control projects in Banga, Santo Niño, Norala, City of Koronadal, Polomolok, and Tboli.

According to Arnold Aba, Statistician I of the OPPDC–Research, Evaluation and Monitoring Division, regular project monitoring helps ensure that government-funded projects remain transparent, accountable, and responsive to the needs of the people.

“Through regular project monitoring, we can verify the actual status of government-funded projects and ensure that public funds are being used according to their intended purpose. This process promotes transparency and accountability while helping us identify concerns early and ensure that the projects deliver their intended benefits to the people.”

The monitoring team brings together specialists from the OPPDC, Provincial Engineer’s Office, Governor’s Inspectorate Unit, Provincial Budget Office, and Legal Office, alongside independent CSO observers to provide an unbiased, citizen-centered review.

“The joint monitoring allowed the team to verify the actual progress of projects on the ground, check compliance with approved plans and specifications, and identify concerns that may affect project implementation,” Aba said, stressing the participation of CSOs also provides a citizen-centered perspective in assessing government projects.

Through site validation and documentation, the PPMC gives constituents a clearer view of where public funds are being invested and how these investments are being translated into actual infrastructure and services in their communities.

Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. emphasized that government projects must ultimately create tangible benefits for South Cotabateños.

“Every project funded by the government carries with it the responsibility to ensure that public resources are used properly and that the intended benefits reach our people. Through regular monitoring and the participation of our government offices and civil society partners, we strengthen transparency, address concerns early, and make sure that our infrastructure projects are implemented for the benefit of every South Cotabateño.” – Tamayo said.

The quarterly monitoring reinforces the Provincial Government’s commitment to Tama at Maayos na Serbisyo, ensuring that every public investment is properly implemented, transparent, accountable, and beneficial to the communities it is intended to serve.
