South Cotabato intensifies clearing operations in Lake Sebu landslide area

KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato — The Provincial Government of South Cotabato, through the Office of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer (OPDRRMO) and the Office of the Provincial Engineer (OPE), continues its clearing operations in the landslide-affected area of Sitio T’daan Kini, Barangay Lamlahak, Lake Sebu, following the landslide that occurred over the weekend.

Heavy equipment and response personnel remain deployed in the area to clear landslide debris, restore road accessibility, and ensure the safety of residents and motorists passing through the affected community. The clearing operations were immediately initiated following reports of soil erosion and road obstruction caused by continuous rainfall in the area.

 

The OPDRRMO allocated 1,000 liters of fuel intended for the heavy equipment being utilized by the Office of the Provincial Engineer. The support aims to sustain uninterrupted clearing activities and speed up the rehabilitation of affected roads and nearby infrastructure.

 

Provincial Engineer Lloyd M. Esparagosa, also conducted a site inspection and courtesy visit to Lake Sebu Municipal Mayor Antonio G. Fungan Jr. to further strengthen coordination and collaboration between the Provincial Government and the Local Government Unit in addressing the urgent concerns and needs of the affected residents.

 

Esparagosa emphasized the importance of close coordination with local officials to ensure that response operations are efficiently carried out and that assistance reaches communities affected by the landslide as quickly as possible.

 

Meanwhile, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Rolly Doane Aquino assured affected families and nearby communities that the provincial government remains committed to extending the necessary assistance and support while response and rehabilitation efforts continue in the area.

 

Aquino added that the OPDRRMO continues to closely monitor the situation, especially in landslide-prone areas, to ensure public safety amid unstable weather conditions. Residents living near vulnerable slopes and mountain roads are also being advised to remain vigilant and immediately coordinate with local authorities during emergencies.

 

Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. likewise assured residents that the provincial government is fully committed to assisting communities affected by natural disasters and calamities.

 

“Ang Provincial Government sang South Cotabato padayon nga nagaresponde kag nagabulig sa aton mga pumuluyo nga naapektuhan sang kalamidad. Gina-ensure naton nga may ara sang nagakaigo nga assistance kag agarang aksyon agud maprotektahan ang kabuhi kag pangabuhian sang aton katawhan,” Governor Tamayo said.

 

Authorities continue to monitor the condition of the affected area while assessment and rehabilitation efforts remain ongoing to prevent further risks and ensure the immediate recovery of the community.
