South Cotabato, Philippines — The Provincial Government of South Cotabato, through the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian, has actively participated in the Nationwide Simultaneous Anti-Rabies Vaccination Drive for Animals, reinforcing its commitment to public health and animal welfare.
Under the leadership of Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr., the initiative is being carried out in coordination with local government units (LGUs) across all municipalities in the province. The synchronized activity forms part of a broader effort to intensify rabies prevention and promote responsible pet ownership at the grassroots level.
The campaign aligns with the global initiative “Zero by 30,” spearheaded by the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH), which aims to eliminate human deaths from dog-mediated rabies by 2030.
Simultaneous mass vaccination activities and Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaigns are being conducted in various communities across South Cotabato. These efforts aim to increase public awareness, encourage pet vaccination, and ensure the safety of families from the threat of rabies.
Dr. Errol B. Javier, Veterinarian III, emphasized the importance of collective action in combating rabies.
“Rabies is 100 percent preventable, yet it remains a serious public health concern. Through this nationwide vaccination drive, we are strengthening our efforts to protect both animals and humans,” he said.
He also highlighted the role of community participation.
“We encourage all pet owners to have their dogs and cats vaccinated regularly. Responsible pet ownership is key to achieving a rabies-free community,” he added.
Dr. Javier further emphasized the importance of sustained awareness.
“Our IEC campaigns are designed to educate families about the dangers of rabies and the simple steps they can take to prevent it. With continued cooperation, we can achieve the goal of ‘Zero by 30,’” he said.
The Provincial Veterinarian’s Office assured the public that vaccination teams will continue to reach barangays across the province in the coming days, making services more accessible to all residents.
With unified efforts from the government and the community, South Cotabato moves closer to a safer, rabies-free future.
