South Cotabato launches 2026 ‘Weight Management Program’ to promote healthier workforce

South Cotabato, Philippines — The Provincial Government of South Cotabato officially launched its 2026 Weight Management Program last Saturday, March 21, marking a renewed commitment to employee wellness and a healthier workplace.

The program, spearheaded by Provincial Human Resource Management Officer Freda Liza Gazo, builds on the success of previous “Flab to Fab Challenge” initiatives.

“This year’s campaign carries the theme “Healthy Employees, Healthy Workplace,” encouraging government workers to adopt active lifestyles and better health practices,” Gazo said.

The launch coincided with the Ijuana Run Fun Run, symbolizing a strong and energetic start to the province’s wellness initiatives. It is a collaborative effort of the Provincial Health, Wellness and Safety Board, the Weight Management Team, and the Office of the Provincial Human Resource Management Officer.

A highlight of the event was the Pledge of Commitment, led by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Conrado M. Brana, Jr., where employees and officials expressed their support for the program and their dedication to achieving healthier lifestyles.

Recent data underscores the urgency of the initiative. Out of 3,160 employees assessed, a significant number were found to be either overweight or obese—prompting the province to strengthen its wellness strategies through structured monitoring and targeted interventions.

The program features two main categories:

  • Healthy Office Category, encouraging team-based participation among departments and clusters
  • Biggest Loser (Individual) Category, focusing on personal health transformation

“The province will roll out diet counseling sessions led by in-house nutritionists and dietitians, particularly for employees requiring specialized guidance. Monthly weigh-ins and regular progress monitoring will also be conducted to sustain engagement and accountability,” Gazo explained, supporting the participants in their weight management journey.

Through this initiative, the Provincial Government continues to champion not only productivity but also the overall well-being of its workforce—reinforcing its vision of a healthier, more resilient South Cotabato.
