South Cotabato Leads Way in Local Poverty Reduction Efforts

City of Koronadal, South Cotabato, Philippines | August 15, 2025— The Provincial Government of South Cotabato continues its implementation of its Local Poverty Reduction Action Plan through the “South Cotabato Poverty Reduction: E-Angat ang Barangay Project.”

The project initiative is anchored on the extensive deliberations of the Local Poverty Reduction Task Force (LPRTF) of the province. It is composed of various provincial offices in collaboration with national line agencies from the region.

According to Leiancee Gayle Daanoy, Program Coordinator and LPRTF Secretariat, the project aims to assist the identified impoverished barangays across the three districts of South Cotabato.

Three pioneering barangays in the Province have been selected for profiling—Barangay Juan Loreto Tamayo in Tupi, Barangay Dumadalig in Tantangan, and Barangay Puti in Norala.

The program hopes to expand its coverage to benefit more barangays soon.

Recently, South Cotabato became the first local government unit in the country to develop a Local Poverty Reduction Action Plan, addressing and reducing the poverty rate in the province.

Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. expressed his firm commitment to the project, stating, “Our goal is to ensure that no community is left behind. Through this poverty reduction initiative, we are not just providing short-term assistance—we are laying the foundation for sustainable development in every barangay.”
